Meet the team Monday
Nici Hewitson, Director
Here at One Little Bird HQ, we think we have a pretty splendid team (not that we’re biased or anything…) Made up of birds as far-flung as Australia, as well as local nesters here in Cumbria, our beautiful office in Cockermouth is always brimming with a whole host of different perspectives, ideas and experiences.
So, we thought, why not introduce our rather brilliant birds to the rest of the world?!
First up: The Boss.
What do you do on a day-to-day basis at One Little Bird?
I can be meeting with clients or potential clients, catching up with the team, on a film shoot, a photo shoot, meeting with the press, writing press releases… it’s always varied and that’s something I love.
What sorts of things were you doing before you joined OLB?
I worked in children’s telly as a live gallery PA and a script supervisor/production coordinator. I used to manage the diary for the Blue Peter garden!
What clients do you work on?
I personally look after Langdale Estate and Ast Signs and have done since I founded One Little Bird in 2013.
Your proudest OLB moment to date?
There are many. Here are a few: moving to our new offices, winning the in-Cumbria Business Awards, making the recruitment film for Ast Signs, getting Brimstone in Vogue and seeing how the company has grown.
Your favourite thing about working in Cumbria?
I’m a proud Cumbrian and think we are blessed to live here. I never get tired of the views and I love the fresh air – I missed it in London.
Now for the serious stuff…
The best holiday you’ve ever been on?
Hajfell in Norway and Licciana Nardi in Italy.
What would be your Desert Island Dish (one dish you could request if you were stuck on a desert island)?
Toast with butter and marmite or Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Most things with gravy actually – I could drink it.
Any hidden talents?
I can do an excellent headstand. I can also move my ears on their own. These are extraordinary talents, I don’t know where I’d be without them.
Your most embarrassing moment?
Falling down the stairs INTO a press launch.
If you could be any bird, what would you be?
If there was a song that epitomised you, which would it be?
This is an impossible question to answer.
Your favourite alcoholic beverage?
Ice-cold white wine. Or red wine by the fire.
Your go-to karaoke song?
Too many to mention, once I’m on I won’t get off. Past favourites have included Ice Ice Baby, Sweet Child of Mine and You Shook Me.
The best (or worst!) joke you know – go!
What’s brown and sticky? A stick.
If you could tell your younger self something you knew now, what would it be?
All is well. You can’t please everyone. Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. And maybe don’t dye your hair cherry red.
Marmite – love or hate?
Best Christmas song of all time?
The One by The Waitresses and Fairytale of New York by The Pogues.
Of all time? A Christmas Carol.
Recent favourites: Notes on a Nervous Planet, Women Who Run With The Wolves, The Farm at The Edge of the World, The Miracle Morning, The Keeper of Lost Things.
The first record/tape/cd you ever bought?
Manhattan Skyline by Aha.
Your favourite quote/phrase?
‘Strong women: may we be them, may we know them, may we raise them.’
The one film you could watch again and again?
Best board game ever created?
A tv series you can’t get enough of?
Your childhood crush?
Fish scare me.
And the most important question of all. Which would you prefer to fight – one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
Definitely 100 duck-sized horses. No brainer
